The Storm is over Now… or is it?

Here I sit, staring out the window. What a beautiful sight to see- the sun, the dry streets, and no storm debris in sight.

But as I look at this glorious morning, thanking God that I made it through the storm, my eyes have been filled with tears for the past 10 days including today.

We here in Houston have made it through the worst storm in history. Countless people were plucked from the waters, from their rooftops, and from their cars and brought to what we here in Houston considered safety; on top of a freeway overpass before being taken away to a shelter.

I’ve watched countless stories on TV of people who were drenched, carrying their children, and some carrying what they could in plastic bags. News reporters and anchors covering the storm were overcome with emotion as well as they should be.

In the midst of this horrific storm, people were thanking God for their lives. And in the wake of some people being polarized over political issues and statues, Houston came together and showed the world that none of this mattered if you needed help. Everyone got it!

There were no lines of division separating people from each other. No one looked at the color to the hand reaching out to rescue them and took a moment to decide if they would accept it or not. The worst situations can and will bring out the best in people. I have no answer as to why the storm hit us. But there weren’t any clashes or biases as to who would get help.

One story that sticks in my mind from the news is a man and his son who were rescued from their apartment. His name is Jeremiah. He tells how he has lost everything. What stuck with me is how he kept saying, “God is good!”

Yes, indeed He is. I pray so hard everyday and every night for those affected by “Harvey.” I have a hard time sleeping at night wondering how the people who have lost it all are doing. I pray they have the fire inside of them to keep going.

Cry a while and get it all out. The answer is already down the road.

As the name “Harvey” is retired (no other hurricane shall have that name) I hope the people affected can find the strength to retire their doubts, fears and insecurities because they have made it through the storm.

I want them to welcome peace, joy, love and happiness back into their lives.

Let no storm, no matter how much water it brings flood your life enough to put out the fire that is burning inside of you.

Your trail has not ended. It was time to take a detour. I will continue to pray and volunteer to help those affected by the storm in my great city of Houston.

All will be well again in Houston. God is good.

You have a chance to start again.

Get up and get noticed!

Nobody can be you, but you!

No matter how much you admire someone else’s personality, charisma, drive, or outward appearance, there is someone out there that wants what you have.

Everyone has some things about them that are unique that others wish they had.

You may have the perfect smile, the ability to put together a hellified outfit and rock it like no one else, or have that “it” that no one can explain that draws people to you.

While you are looking at others wishing you had what they have, there is someone looking at you and wishing the same thing. While you are looking at others, check out who may be looking at you.

While you people watch, you have been watched as well.

So just be you and be the best you can be.

When you get up, you get noticed without you even knowing it.

Blaze a Trail and Keep it Moving

Move it. Move it.

How far down the trail have you gone? Have you created a path yet or are you following in the footsteps of others?

We have our own two feet, our own minds, and actions  to take us where we should be.

If you can move, then move. There is nothing standing in your way to cause you to stumble. And if there is, either hop over it or kick it out of your way. But  don’t stand there and wonder how you are going get down the road to your success.

Bang!

Did your New Year come in with a bang? Most likely not. Especially if you sat around and did nothing that would culminate into something different in the New Year.

Our lives were not going to magically change at the stroke of midnight! Sure some fireworks may have been set off. The skies lit up and there was jubilance in the air. But what changed in your life? Were you doing something different last year to bring something different into the new year?

I started for a little while towards the end of September, picked up a little steam in October and went full blast all the way through November 30th. Then the fire turned into a fizzle. My excuse. The holidays are coming up. So I used that excuse to overeat, not exercise, and not finish projects I had started.

My New Year did start with a bang. But not with the bang I thought it would be. In fact, I wasn’t expecting a bang at all, because I knew I hadn’t done anything to cause a bang.

But I did find myself in an unfortunate situation (it’s much better now) that caused me to wake up and realize it is time to move on. That big argument which I did not see coming was the catalyst for me to move away from the source, get myself together so I can follow my path.

So as I look back, the holidays did not keep me from moving forward.

It was the load that I carried from the past into the future.

Wake up!

Go ahead. Set it Off!!!

Let it go. Let it go. Let it go.

Light self-doubt on fire. Don’t turn back. Don’t look for it and surely don’t think about it.

Burn your past and keep it moving. Let today be the first day of the rest of  your life.

If you are still breathing, can think, and can get up of your backside, then you can do whatever you want to do.

Shake those haters off. Tell the negative people to get out of your way. Tell stress to take a leap.

Walk away from arguments. Hang up the phone to that nonsense that people are talking about on the other end.

Do not waste your breath trying to say what you think other people need to hear to change. THEY WILL NOT CHANGE BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU ARE SAYING TO THEM OR BECAUSE YOU WANT THEM TO.

Stop doing stuff with or for other people so they can feel good while you are miserable doing it.

Set that negative stuff on fire and walk away.

Let your NO, be NO. And that should be your final answer!

Happy New Years to you all.

And in 2017, I want you to Ignite Your Life!

Battleground

FIGHT YOUR OWN BATTLES

field

When you are in a battle, you have two choices; stay and fight or tuck tail and run.

You can be standing on firm, solid ground and still feel like it is going to fall from under you. The enemies that you fight against can be people, your thoughts, what you think  other people  are thinking about you (and you probably are not on their mind at all), your failures (actually lessons learned),  and just plain old self pity!

And the dead bodies that are all around your feet that you carefully step over, are actually your unfulfilled goals. Suddenly, you find yourself in the middle of nowhere. You have all of your ideas and dreams floating around in your head, but nothing is sticking. You look out in front of  you as far as you can see. And. You. See. Nothing.

You have to make a decision right now to fight for what you believe in your heart that you know you are supposed to be doing. It does not matter how long you have to fight. Take each battle one at a time. If it is for you, fight the battle.

If you know it is not for you and someone is trying to convince you to do something because it will either benefit them or  keep you in their eyesight (because of their insecurity), tuck tail and run. Run. Fast.

Learn to say no without explaining why when it comes to you focusing on what you need to do. People who are not goal oriented do not always fit into your daily plans. They will suck the life out of you, stress you out and cause you to unconsciously abandon your plan.

Do what I do and have a “runaway weekend.” I run away from home!

I go to a hotel for a weekend and just write. No one to drop by because no one knows exactly where I am. But I do check in with my family so they do not worry. I encourage you try this. We all need protected time for our projects, our thoughts, and our peace of mind.

Fight the battles that are yours to fight.

Do not fight anyone else’s battle.

Please don’t let your path be a dirt road!
